PADI Advanced Open Water Course

Expand the environment and depths you can dive in with the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver License allowing you to dive deeper…

The PADI Advanced Course is the next step from Open Water Diver, and with New Way Diving we have catered the best dives to the environment surrounding the waters of Koh Tao. The course takes place over 2 days and includes 5 Dives with the focus being to develop your all round diving environment, rather than focusing on scuba skills that were taught during the Open Water Course. If you have not dived in the last year then you might need to take a PADI Scuba-Tune Up before you can enroll in our PADI Advanced Open Water Course. If in doubt, send us an email and check what we can do – it’s your holiday and we are flexible!

The Schedule

The New Way Advanced Open Water DiverCourse is designed to be flexible, and we offer it as such. However, in our 20+ years of experience we have found the below to be the most suitable, and how we usually run it, with the mandatory dives in bold;

Day 1 10:00 – 10:45 Course Orientation & Paperwork
11:45 – 17:00 Peak Performance Buoyancy & Navigation Dive
18:30 – 20:00 Night Dive
Day 2 06:00 – 10:30 Deep Dive & Wreck Dive

Should you want to change what dives you complete, you have a choice from the below tabs:

During this mandatory dive your instructor brief you about safety considerations that come into play with increased depth. They will take you to a depth of 30m and conduct a test to see if you are suffering from Nitrogen Narcosis – an effect similar to being drunk that arises from depth. During this mandatory dive your instructor will brief you on various ways of navigating using both a compass and various natural techniques. You will then conduct a dive where you will navigate various shapes and negotiate distances with fin kicks and time.

This dive focuses on improving the hardest diving skill – Buoyancy. In this dive your instructor will have you playing a number of buoyancy games all of which focus on improving your underwater control, which ultimately reduces air-consumption.

During this dive we focus on the techniques used by all the pro’s to establish what it is we are actually looking at, rather than filling our log books out with “Pretty Yellow Fish”.

This dive focuses on giving you the additional information needed to use what is now the most common piece of diving equipment – a Dive Computer.

This dive is as it sounds – you will be taught a number of techniques to make your underwater photos look much more appealing.

Wreck Diving has an appeal for most divers, but there are a number of factors that need to be known to allow this to be done safely.

Perhaps one of the most rewarding dives, this can even be done as the full specialty. We will teach the additional techniques and knowledge required to be able to dive with Nitrox, which increases the overall safety of diving, and allows you to extend the times you can spend at given depths.

While FISH ID Dive focuses on Fish, this dive finds relationships between underwater life. For instance, the little Goby Fish, which are seen in the sand with a shrimp in their hole. The shrimp is blind and creates shelter for the fish that keeps guard.

Drift diving is generally done in currents and requires a few additional techniques in order to be performed correctly.

Night Diving is extremely popular since you get to experience the difference in the marine environment. Everything seen during the day goes to sleep, and instead the things rarely seen come out to play.

Rent a James Bond Scooter and learn how to control it and zip around the dive sites with minimal effort.

Search and Recovery Diving requires an additional skill set in order to be done effectively, such as how to navigate effective search patterns and how to rig a weighted item to be lifted.

Boat Diving is the most common form of diving, and yet most people know none of the nautical terms which boats use.

What’s Next

After becoming certified as an Advanced Open Water Diver, there are a few main routes to continue. Firstly, you may decide to Fun Dive with us. Our ex-student rate is 700 THB per dive, and all students get their first 2 dives at 50% discount!

Or perhaps you wish to learn more about the subjects you covered in the Advanced course. This is done through specialties, with the most popular being the Deep Diver Specialty, which certifies you to 40m, the Wreck Diver Specialty, which allows you explore the inside of wrecks, and Enriched Air Nitrox, which allows you to dive on Nitrox all over the world and extend your dive times. Otherwise a great confidence boost is to continue your training with the PADI Rescue Diver.
