Advanced Diver Course

The Advanced Open Water Course / SSI Advanced Adventurer

Variety is the spice of life, and with diving the same applies!

The Advanced Diver Program gives you a taster into 5 different specialist areas of diving and develops your all-round diving ability!

The Advanced Course is the most common next step from Open Water Diver, and with New Way Diving we have catered the best dives to the environment surrounding the waters of Koh Tao.

Our Advanced Dive Course takes place over 2 days and includes 5 Dives with the focus being to develop your all round diving knowledge rather than focusing on the scuba diving skills that were taught during the Open Water Course.

If you have not dived in the last year then you might need to take a Dive Refresher before you can enroll in our course.

If in doubt, send us an email and check what we can do – it’s your holiday and we are flexible!

Level 2 certification : Autonomous Diver

During this mandatory dive your instructor will brief you about safety considerations that come into play with increased depth, such as increased gas consumption rates, reduced No Decompression limits and more. They will then take you to a depth of 30m and have you manage your depths and establish your turn time based on gas consumption.

This dive focuses on improving the hardest diving skill – Buoyancy. In this dive your instructor will have you playing a number of buoyancy games all of which focus on improving your underwater control, which ultimately reduces air-consumption and makes you a more comfortable, confident diver.

During this dive we focus on the techniques used by all the pro’s to establish what it is we are actually looking at, rather than filling our log books out with “Pretty Yellow Fish”.

This dive focuses on giving you the additional information needed to use what is now the most common piece of diving equipment – a Dive Computer.

This dive is as it sounds – you will be taught a number of techniques to make your underwater photos look much more appealing.

Wreck Diving has an appeal for most divers, but there are a number of factors that need to be known to allow this to be done safely. Koh Tao has a few wrecks for your to explore and develop these techniques on, with the marine life found on all of them being plentiful.

Perhaps one of the most rewarding dives, this can even be done as the full specialty. We will teach the additional techniques and knowledge required to be able to dive with Nitrox, which increases the overall safety of diving, and allows you to extend the times you can spend at given depths. Nitrox is now offered free in a number of diving destinations in the world due to it’s increased safety benefits as well as the advantages given from being able to spend longer at given depths, so is definitely worth learning more about!

While FISH ID Dive focuses on Fish, this dive finds relationships between underwater life. For instance, the little Goby Fish, which are seen in the sand with a shrimp in their hole. The shrimp is blind and creates shelter for the fish that keeps guard.

Drift diving is generally done in currents and requires a few additional techniques in order to be performed correctly. During this dive you will plan and execute a dive using these procedures, with a descent at “Point A” and an ascent in “Point B”. Sounds easy, but there are some additional skills needed!

Night Diving is extremely popular since you get to experience the difference in the marine environment. Everything seen during the day goes to sleep, and the marine life that’s rarely seen comes out to play.

Rent a James Bond Scooter and learn how to control it and zip around the dive sites with minimal effort. This dive has a surcharge of 1,500 THB for the DPV rental.

Search and Recovery Diving requires an additional skill set in order to be done effectively, such as how to navigate search patterns as well as how to rig a weighted item to be lifted. During this dive you will search for a weighted item and prepare it for lifting to the surface!

Boat Diving is the most common form of diving, and yet most people know none of the nautical terms which boats use. What is the Head? Where is the Galley?
